KAZAK COMPOSITES INTRODUCES A NEW SYSTEM FOR IMPROVING CARGO SUPPLY EFFICIENCY
New System is Easier to Install, Saves Money and Reduces Waste
ARLINGTON, VA, June 8, 2009 – KaZaK Composites, Inc., a premier provider of high value-added composite engineering and design, today announced it has designed and manufactured a new system that improves cargo supply efficiency in the Navy’s T-AKE ship class with a method for blocking and bracing material against existing KaZaK-designed stanchions. KaZaK currently has provided over 85,000 stanchions to the T-AKE fleet of ships for the cargo restraint program to date and will have close to 150,000 KaZaK stanchions serving the T-AKE program by early 2011. The new E-wedge system consists of a single piece equivalent wedge that clips directly onto the KaZaK stanchion and adjusts manually to fill the gap between the stanchion and cargo with a simple wrench tightening. The E-wedge eliminates the use of wood and therefore reduces the amount of waste and also fire hazard issues associated with the current wood dunnage.
“The E-wedge is the perfect complement to the existing stanchion program that is currently being deployed in the T-AKE fleet of ships. In addition to eliminating waste, the new E-wedge also saves the Navy time and money because it is so economical and simple to install and disassemble,” says John Schickling, EVP/COO of KaZaK Composites. “Also, the Navy is able to greatly reduce the amount of wood dunnage waste it’s currently producing because the E-wedge is reusable.”
In addition to the E-wedge, KaZaK has also designed and manufactured a new lightweight aluminum stanchion for use with non-hazardous cargo. This new stanchion is high strength, low-cost and meets all fire, smoke and toxicity standards. The new design is more modern with no external moving parts and employs a tool-free installation. It is also color coded for easier inspection.
