KAZAK COMPOSITES PARTICIPATES IN LOCAL
“INTRODUCE A GIRL TO ENGINEERING" DAY

Company Hopes to Encourage More Girls to Pursue Careers in Engineering

WOBURN, MA, March 6, 2008 – KaZaK Composites, Inc., a premier provider of high value-added composite engineering and design, today announced it will participate in the “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” at JFK Middle School in Woburn, MA.  The day is sponsored in conjunction with National Engineers Week, which was the week of February 18, 2008.  The event at JFK was scheduled to accommodate school’s winter break week.

The event will take place for over 100 eighth grade girls and will give them a glimpse into life as an engineer.  “We had a great response to the event when we participated last year,” said Darcy Hornberger, an engineer at KaZaK who presents to the students.  “We tried to put together a presentation that shows the fun side of engineering and shows the girls that it’s not just about math and science.  A lot of girls won’t even think of it as an option as they look at colleges and try to find what they want to do.  We hope this day will encourage them to try something they might not have thought of.”

The National Science Foundation reported in 2003 that while about 46% of the US workforce is female, women only account for about 24% of the Science and Engineering Workforce.  The National Society of Professional Engineers hopes that by organizing more events like this they will be able to add to the diversity in companies that employ engineers.  “KaZaK is always looking for individuals who can contribute to our talented staff,” says Susan Ricci, HR director at KaZaK.  “By participating in this event we are hoping that more girls will gear their education towards engineering and will remember KaZaK when the time comes to look for a job.  We also offer some summer internships that give the kids some hands-on experience in engineering work.”
